Nicht schlecht: Mesut Özil

Nicht schlecht: Lira Bajramaj

Making Of

Will anyone be watching? :)

And onto Bundesliga news...Is anyone else happy that Schalke won the Pokal? And that Benedikt Höwedes finally got called up to the NT? YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY, I are excite for the three games coming up :D

Dear mod, is it possible to get tags for the German NT and for the bundesliga? And perhaps other tags as well, for both players?

Mesut is my special cookie of love too! I don't watch him with Real but he was great at Werder, no? And of course he had those super games at the world cup.

Now I have a raging girl crush on Lira, omg. She is perfection.

Awww Mesut Özil ♥ definitely one of my favourite players.

I have to confess I never took much of an interest in women's football, but I'll give it a shot for this World Cup.

And I really should start watching the Bundesliga more so that I won't have these "hey, who's this new player?" moments when my NT plays *cough* But giving talented youngsters a chance is always great!

He is! :D

Heh, I suppose everyone watches football differently ;) As for me, I could write essays about why the German NT is so massively important to me, but the team I care about most in all of football is and always will be Liverpool FC.

Mesut is the first player whose jersey I've actually wanted to own. (I haven't bought one yet for financial reasons, but I found a Schweinsteiger on sale for $30, so...)

And Lira is smokin hot. I'm an equal-opportunity ogler.

I live really close to the soccer.com warehouse, and back in April they had a clearance sale - everything was 60% off, boots, bags, jerseys, books, etc. So I went in, rummaged around, and found a #7. There was a little hole in one of the sleeves, but aside from that, it was fine. I know how to use a needle and thread.

I have some philosophical issues around ogling female athletes (or movie stars or whatever) because of the whole objectification of women in our culture, but, dammit, I like looking at attractive people, and I'm bisexual. But I still feel a little creepy doing it. Stupid patriarchy. (And besides, she's a good player! And I think Mesut is kinda goofy-looking, but he's a wizard with the ball.)

I want to buy things from my club's shop (Hertha BSC), but shipping from there is E25 for all orders up to E100, and that's ridiculous. So a friend of mine was in Berlin this month (SO JEALOUS), and he agreed to pick me up some loot then mail it to me in the much cheaper US postal service. I'm thankful I'm an average size, I guess? Though I wish everything marked "women's" wasn't PINK.

It's one of those things I've had to figure out in the decade or so I've known there was such a thing as being bisexual. It's very weird sorting out whether it's objectification or attractiveness, because it doesn't bother me when I gawk at male footballers' abs or thighs (or when I bond with a gay guy over how hot footballers are). But good-looking people are good-looking, so why shouldn't I think they look good? (I guess the line is around "thinks they're just there for looking good" as opposed to thinking they have value outside their physical features...)

He's got kind of weird bug-eyes! That's what makes it not work for me. He's got a sweet smile, and in some photos the bug-ness is minimized, but when he's on the pitch, focused on the thing he loves, it's just beautiful.

Yeah, they have women's polo shirts and things like that, cut for women. It's nice, because they're not the boxy "unisex" shirts, but they're PINK. As you can see from the icon, the team colors are blue and white. Not pink. "I bleed blue-white" written in pink. WRONG. Wrongity wrong. (herthashop.de) I'm a bog-standard medium in unisexmen's sizes, but apparently a L or XL in the babydoll t-shirt varieties. Bah.

I go more in for the Arne or Mats type. The Lord of the Rings extras ;) Sure, defenders don't often get to do anything spectacular or pretty, but they're just as important. And every now and then, they make a spectacular tackle or block.

Berlin was a big blue-white mess on the final Pokal day! Duisburg and Schalke are both blue and white, plus Hertha'd just won the 2. Liga, so it was blue and white all over.

Over on Twitter, folks are thinking he'll start everyone he's called up (or at least give them SOME playing time) over the three matches, just to test it out. I'm looking forward to seeing how (U-21/Hertha) Pierre-Michel Lasogga develops. He's a middle striker, a real poacher, and if he does well over the next couple years, he could solve our Klose-retirement problem.

I know :( Miro's like this iconic figure for me, more so than Olli Kahn or Ballack or anyone.

Lasogga's young, and he hasn't become totally consistent yet. He played in 25 matches (started 19) and scored 13 goals and had 4 assists. (from the bundesliga.de stats) But one of the things we lack is a finisher and Klose back-up. Gomez is the definition of inconsistent (and his haircut offends my sense of taste), and he's got a different style than Klose. There are a few more on the U-21 team right now, so we've got potential...in 3-5 years probably. Maybe in time for 2014 in case Klose gets injured or starts losing his form (or his NT form starts looking like his Bayern form, God forbid).

I watched much of 2002 on TV and listened to 2006 on Spanish AM radio (I didn't have a TV at the time, and I don't speak Spanish), but it's just recently that following international soccer has become easy from the US.

Mario got his hair cut in a really unfortunate style http://www.kickette.com/mario-gomez-what-did-we-do-to-deserve-this/ The long hair was nice (I like chin-length hair on guys!) but this new style is just. Eeew.

Lell's such a sweetheart, giving the other teams so many free kicks near the penalty area ;)

I wish I could have afforded to travel to Berlin for the Aufstieg and Meister parties. I'll just have to live vicariously through twitter and pictures on the internet.
